An AI interviewer for engineering and technical roles

Hure is an AI interviewer that runs a structured first round for engineering candidates: an 8–10 minute voice interview about their own technical decisions, scored against a sealed rubric with every score citing the transcript. Your engineers get a consistent read on every candidate before they spend time on a technical round.

01

Why are engineering first rounds hard to keep consistent?

Engineering first rounds often go to whichever engineer has a free hour, each with favorite questions and a private bar. Two interviewers can talk to the same candidate and walk away with opposite reads, because they asked different things and weighed the answers differently. Generic questions add a newer problem: the more a question resembles something already on the internet, the more an AI assistant can help a candidate answer it, so a polished answer proves less than it used to.

02

How does an AI interviewer probe real engineering experience?

Hure classifies the domain of each role when you author it, and for engineering roles it applies a curated expertise pack, so the interviewer already knows the vocabulary, the themes and the angles worth probing for that kind of job. Follow-ups come only from the techniques you approve for each competency, such as what the candidate personally did, what went wrong or which tradeoff they made. Hure returns to threads the candidate opened earlier and notices when two answers do not line up. The pack shapes how Hure asks and follows up, and scores still come from the sealed rubric alone.

03

How many engineering hours do first-round screens take?

Plain arithmetic for one engineering role, assuming a 45-minute first-round screen run by an engineer. No team's results are in these numbers.

  • 120 applicants × 45 minutes = 90 hours of engineer time.
  • 90 hours ÷ 40 hours a week = 2.25 working weeks of one engineer away from the product.
  • Screening only 40 of them still costs 40 × 45 minutes = 30 hours.
  • When an AI interviewer runs round one, the engineer hours in that first round are 0, and engineers spend their interview time on the technical round with the shortlist.
04

What does Hure leave to your technical interviews?

Hure is a spoken interview about the candidate's own work. It does not run a coding exercise, a take-home or a system design session, so keep those for the rounds where your engineers meet the shortlist. Hure does not try to detect AI use either: it has no eye tracking and no voice or face analysis, and it judges what candidates say, never how they look or sound. Round one gives you a record of how each candidate reasons about real work, with every score tied to a quote, and a person on your team decides who moves on.

Frequently asked questions

Does Hure replace our technical interview?

Hure handles the first round, a structured voice interview about the candidate's own engineering work, and your technical rounds with the shortlist stay with your engineers. It does not run coding exercises or take-homes.

Can candidates use AI to game a Hure interview?

Hure does not try to detect AI use: it asks follow-ups about the candidate's own history, built on their last answer, and scores only the evidence the candidate gives. A scripted answer tends to run thin under those follow-ups, though no interview format can guarantee against a well-coached candidate.

What does Hure ask an engineering candidate about?

Hure asks about the competencies in the rubric your team sealed for the role, and a curated engineering expertise pack shapes how it asks and follows up. Scores still come from the sealed rubric alone.

Does Hure judge an engineer's accent or fluency?

Hure judges what candidates say, never how they look or sound, so accent, fluency and nerves play no part in a score. Every score rests on the substance of an answer and cites the transcript moment behind it.

The guarantees that don't change

  • Voice-to-voice interviews across 100+ languages, in the candidate's language.
  • A live, two-way conversation: Hure listens, builds each follow-up from what the candidate just said, lets them interrupt, and comes back to what they said earlier.
  • Candidates can ask about the role mid-interview. Hure answers from facts the hiring team approved and says when it doesn't know.
  • Each interview runs about 8–10 minutes.
  • Every score is tied to a citable moment in the transcript, so each scorecard is evidence-backed.
  • No biometrics: Hure judges what candidates say, never how they look or sound.
  • Candidates need no app or account, just one browser link on a phone or laptop.
  • A human always makes the final hiring decision.
